While the 1920s are roaring elsewhere, a New England manor becomes a hotbed for supernatural phenomena. Devout young maid Janet Mackinzie (Antonia Pugliese) senses that all is not well with Tom Lane (Ian Cardoni), the nephew and ward of the spirit medium (Emily Sweeney) sent to communicate with the ghosts in the house. When she sets out to save Tom -- in various senses of the word -- her actions have repercussions for all around her.

An eerie, evocative silent film, The Ballad of Burd Janet turns the tables on fairy tale conventions, and serves as a valentine to the director's hometown of Medford, Massachusetts. The cast turns in spirited performances, led by ethereal sixteen-year-old Antonia Pugliese as Janet. With a warm color pallette and storybook tableau, this supernatural coming-of-age story is unlike anything audiences have seen in 2006...or 1926.
